Handshakes and hugs..in a time when we could!

Hello Thralings! This is just a quick note to say that as of next week I will be publishing 1 blog a fortnight answering all of the questions you have asked about the event on facebook. Before I do that, I just wanted to reflect on the event and how things have changed so much in the last 4 months.

For me, one of the best things about The Great Con-Junction was getting to meet other passionate Dark Crystal fans. I chat to lots of other fans on Facebook through the various fan pages that I have become good friends without meeting them. Maybe you have founf the same? To then get to be in a room with a lot of them was wonderful & emotional... even the guests were feeling the love.

Just thought I would share one such meeting. In August of last year there was a #DarkCrystal :AOR exhibition at the BFI.. you probably knew that, maybe you went along? Anyway it was free, I naturally got myself two tickets but wasn't 100% sure I could make it in the end, I saw a post on a DC Facebook group asking if anyone had any spare tickets. I thought I would rather give them away than potentially go to waste. About a week later I received a thank you card and a keyring (pictured).. not just any card and key ring but one of the Great Conjunction chart from Dark Crystal! One of the nicest gifts I have ever had. They wrote to me to thank me for the tickets and say they had a wonderful time... what a lovely thing to do. I really hoped that one day I would bump into them somewhere so I could thank them in person and then I did at the event. We gave each other the biggest hugs, it felt like we were old friends.

That is the beauty of conventions, bringing people together from all over the world to share these moments. And I don't know about you guys, but in every hug and handshake I received I could feel the love and warmth for not only the Dark Crystal but for Jim Henson also. Just think, if social distancing rules had applied, we wouldn’t have all been able to hug each other and shake hands, and that just wouldn't have been as special. We were lucky :)

Did you meet any of your Dark Crystal buddies for the first time at the event? I would love to hear your stories and experiences.
